Boys Academy Group Training Term 1 2023

Overview

Our Term 1 Academy program is for players keen to start the football season with bang!

Most players stop playing all together over summer apart from the casual kickaround with friends. This program is desgined to get you fit and firing for game 1 of the 2023 winter season.

The program will focus on

1. Getting players ready for grading which is usually Week 2 of Term 1 (Week starting 6th of Feb)
2. First touch/Ball control
3. Striking the ball
4. Speed of play
5. Match awareness

This is a holistic program however and ALL core skills are included as hidden learning as we want players who can be comfortable performing any role their teams require.

How it all works?

We understand that it is early to commit for activities in Term 1 2023 and it can sometimes be a juggling act with multple siblings or activities. That is why when you sign up we ask what other days you are available in case we need to move players around if groups are particularly small.

Equipment needed 

Boots, shinpads, water bottle and HAIRBANDS for players with long hair. NO PHONES.

Session length

60 minutes

Class Sizes

Ideally 12 players per coach

Location

St Matthews Farm Reserve: Monday, Wednesday

Cromer High School: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

Wash outs 

With sessions being run every day of every week there will be plenty of times when players can make up sessions if they are washed out.

Playing up an age group?

We are happy for players to play in the age bracket above as long as they are physically and technically able to do so.

Cost 

$170 for 10 weeks of training (1 session a week)

Can I do multiple seassions? 

Absolutely! We hold no secrets, the more players train and play the better they become. We have taken massive strides towards making our academy group training as accessible as possible in order to provide players with opporutnity to train as much as they want. This year we have

Trialling for Manly United in 2023 (for the 2024 season)

If you are planning on trialing for Manly United for the 2024 season there are some important things to note. Players already in these programs will be training 3 times a week. If you wish to break into these teams you need to be matching this volume. How can you expect to get into a team when you do not train as much as they do? During the winter season you will have your 1 session a week with your team but we would advise doubling up on the academy sessions if you are serious about going for it.

Also, these teams train for 40 weeks of the year not just during the winter season. This means that preparing to trial at Manly Starts week 1 Term 1.

At the end of the day you don’t want to finish your trial and have any regrets. We have had multiple players from our academy make squads at Manly United this year and although it is very competitive we also know that is acheivable as long as you put the effort in.
