This one comes from personal experience. I had just finished running a session for some under 6’s. As I was packing up, I heard one of the parents say to their kids “No, no use your toe to ick the ball!”

Its okay it was not a Strikers Team. But if you know anything about football, you’ll know that using the toe is not only not effective but also can cause injury! We quickly stepped in and told the parent the best way to strike the ball at that age was with the inside of the foot.

But my point is how do you know what you are teaching is right for your kid’s development and ultimately enjoyment. Proper Planning Prevents (Piss) Poor Performance. What does it mean? It means that in many cases a session has failed well before it has begun. In many cases volunteer coaches hurry through a session plan, quickly jot down some passing dribbling and a game and away you go.

The issue with this is that if the planning of a session is poor the session itself is likely to also be poor. Think of it like a house built on sand.
